The Old Man
From a dream I had. It would take a long time to explain, but in summation, Christ was showing me my old nature(or it may have been evil influences in and around my life) dying off and this is what I saw trapped in a room that had been built around this thing with no access to the inside only a small sliding door(like a simple speakeasy) to look in on it. When I saw it I laughed and it heard me and jerked around to try and look at me. Very creepy but extremely profound to me. I know it's a very simple painting, but there really wasn't much to this part of the dream other than what I've painted here, and this is really accurate to what I saw. I apologize if this is somewhat disturbing and I don't really have a good reason to paint this, other than I was very compelled to do it. Possibly as a visual reminder to myself of what God is doing in my soul.

Art has been a major part of my life for a very long time. I've been drawing for as far back as I can remember. I had a teacher in the 2nd grade who really got me going on art and that year I completed some pretty impressive projects. I remember a few distinctly; like a squirrel on a stump I drew, a turtle walking through the woods, and a collage of a toucan in a jungle. I mean I wasn't a prodigy or anything, it just made me realize how much I enjoyed creating pictures. I had the same teacher, who was an artist herself, in 5th grade. I won a city wide poster contest that year for earth day. I used markers to draw a tiger laying down in the jungle with a waterfall in the background. So from then on I continued to draw and draw and draw. In high school I immediately started taking art courses. My art teacher was also the football coach and I don't really think he had any business teaching art, but in any case I got through Art 1 with a C. A major project we had was to pick a piece of art to recreate that we were to paint on butcher paper. This was really preparing us for murals that we were going to paint later on in art courses. We had to paint it with a partner and my partner and I chose to paint part of The Metamorphosis of Narcissus by Salvador Dali. Art 2 was awesome. My teacher really let me explore subjects that I was interested in as long as it somewhat conformed to what he was teaching. That same year I completed Tiger in Negative, which you can see in my gallery. Mr. Giovannoni went on to win Teacher of the Year for California. He deserved it. Every year he would work with students on painting murals around the school buildings making Manteca High School eligible for the Guiness Book of World Records as the high school with the most murals. He selected people based on ability to work on recreating a piece of art and I was chosen along with two other students who were both very capable artists to work on recreating Gilbert Stuart's portrait of George Washington. When I changed high schools, I took art 3 and basically did whatever I wanted and since I had changed schools I was able to take a fourth year of art. I did a lot of sculpture those years and a few pastel projects. In my own free time I did quite a few watercolors of where we lived. After high school, my art kind of dropped off but I continued to draw here and there. It wasn't until the last couple of years that I've really taken my art to a new level. I don't think it really makes me a better artist, I just started devoting more time to it. When I met my wife, her parents allowed to paint a mural in their house of the Oregon coast, and after that I started to buy supplies. I painted my first painting on canvas with, Lion for Joshua and started doing other projects for friends. I recently got a Wacom Tablet to go in the digital direction and I love using it. Once I get some better programs, I know I'll be able to whip out more personal projects. So there I am. I hope everyone can enjoy my work!

Thank you very much! As long as He keeps giving me these ideas, I'll keep trying to paint them! It does make me feel good knowing that my work might bring someone inspiration or joy. Even if it just gets people thinking, I feel like I'm doing what I'm suppose to be doing with my gift.
